Doni (00:22):
It was like two o’clock in the morning and this guy is asking for the keys to my truck.
Adam (00:29):
Who was it?
Doni (00:30):
It was the repo man.
Adam (00:31):
Wow.
Doni (00:32):
And I got up the next day and people are calling me about stuff. The trucks need to be fixed.
Adam (00:37):
Life goes on.
Doni (00:39):
I was like, Oh, so I got to go to work. And honestly, I feel like our guys locked in and was like, No, we’re doing this.
Adam (00:50):
You don’t need a fancy business degree or deep pockets to hit seven figures in this industry. Today we’re hearing from real operators who prove anyone can scale a business from scratch. See how they took unconventional paths, overcame major failures, ignore the critics and stayed laser focused to build something worth being proud of.
(01:13)
What about the criticism and the comparison? Let’s say someone’s out there right now wants to start a business, but they’re afraid of what their parents are going to say. They’re afraid of what their friends are going to say. All their friends went off to college or all their friends are making money, doing something else, whatever. And there’s just a lot of comparison game. There’s a lot of criticism or self-doubt. How do you overcome that?
Hunter (01:33):
First things first, do not take advice from people you don’t want to be like. If you’re trying to start a business and somebody’s like, “Oh, well, that’s a really bad idea and you’re stupid.” Look at them immediately. Do they run a successful business? No. Okay, then don’t listen to them.
Adam (01:43):
We get distracted by shiny things a lot.
Kevin (01:45):
Fast.
Adam (01:46):
Easily. Yeah.
Kevin (01:48):
Yeah. When you split your mind into different things.
Adam (01:52):
Chase two rabbits.
Kevin (01:52):
You chase neither. You can only put 50% in both. Yeah. And so when you put 100% into one thing, you can blow that baby up to the moon if that’s your goal. But if you’re chasing the rabbit, which is the money, all that stuff comes when you concentrate on one thing extensively.
Adam (02:07):
If you go back, is there anything that you would’ve done differently since that April after resting season?
Zech (02:14):
I think the only thing I would’ve done differently is I would’ve went twice as hard. Now that I have all this information, if I could go back in time, I would’ve started immediately. Like I said, I kind of did lack some confidence when I first started it and I’ve built confidence through running the business, of course. Having that self-belief is so unbelievably powerful. I push this all the time on my social media. You need to 100% be confident in what you’re going to do and that’s going to take you to the highest, highest level of whatever you’re doing.
Adam (02:37):
You can’t just say like, Oh, I’m going to succeed and just sit in your basement all day.
Hunter (02:40):
No, yeah.
Adam (02:41):
But when you’re doing activity and you’re doing, doing, going, going, going, and you’re churning, churning, churning, at some point, eventually something’s going to stick.
Hunter (02:47):
Yeah, no, exactly. I mean, it’s like how many. It’s all a numbers game. This is what I tell my coaching students and guys that I talk to all the time is like, it’s all a numbers game. If you’re going to go advertise to five people, what are the odds you get a client versus if you advertise to a hundred people? It’s the same thing in business. If you try one business and it doesn’t work, what are the odds one business works versus if you tried 20 times. If you try 20 times, something’s going to work.
Adam (03:10):
Because if you’re not careful, it can feel like the client can feel like I’m just being bought and sold like cattle. Absolutely. And that’s not the case. And so there’s certain ways that you reduce that feeling and make it feel like it’s a good transfer.
Savannah (03:20):
Yeah, communication
Adam (03:21):
Like that. Yeah.
Savannah (03:22):
I think the way that I did it different with the second time I did a buyout was I actually recorded a Loom video and I went through my story. I went through some of our checklists. I went through our scheduling. I mean, I just went through kind of everything so that they felt like they had a genuine connection with me and my company and that I wasn’t just some person that was buying out a business that they’ve been working with or a cleaner that they’ve been working with. And that really went over very well with people.
Adam (03:55):
I want each of you to take a turn and advise our listeners if they wanted to get in your industry, maybe they want to switch or not switch, but get into a new industry, what would be the first step for commercial, first step for residential?
Anatoly (04:08):
I personally would not do residential for a variety of reasons, but I also don’t think that it is for everybody. One, just you have to be okay with floating payroll and salary for 90, 120, maybe even 180 days, which will destroy some people.
Savannah (04:21):
There is something to be said about niching and choosing a direct path and really focusing on that and being an expert at that before you expand to another form. So I think if you find one and you can stick with it and you can really pour your heart into that, you can grow that better than if you’re trying to get 50% here and 50% there.
